A man wielding a knife in a dispute with his brother and a man brandishing a piece of glass in a threatening manner prompted two police-involved shootings ? one of them deadly ? Sunday in Baltimore.
The incidents mark the 22nd and 23rd police-involved shootings this year, eight of which have been deadly.
Responding to a domestic-abuse call early Sunday morning on the 1800 block of Ramsey Street, police discovered a man allegedly beating his girlfriend, according to the Baltimore Police Department. The man then broke a window with his elbow and threatened police with a piece of glass. After ignoring instructions to drop the glass, the man was shot by police.
Police said the suspect subsequently fled on foot but was discovered by officers hiding under a car two blocks away. The suspect wastaken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is in serious but stable condition.
The suspect has a history of domestic violence, said police, who have answered eight calls to the location where he was shot.
The second shooting occurred at 11:40 a.m. on the 2500 block of Lauretta Avenue, after police responded to a call from the mother of two brothers fighting, one with a knife.
Police gave the following account: When police arrived, a woman ran out of the house telling officers the dispute was inside the house. Once inside, officers found the suspect standing over the victim, about to stab him. Police then ordered the suspect to drop the knife, but police said he raised the knife instead. Police then shot him several times.
He was taken to Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead.
Police withheld both men?s names.
