After union protesters broke up the Downtown D.C. BID’s annual meeting, Executive Director Richard Bradley said at Thursday morning’s media briefing the union’s request is still under review because of charges of intimidation.
At a vote on joining the AFL-CIO labor federation, some of the BID’s safety/hospitality and maintenance employees group known as SAMs said they felt pressured. The BID has requested a new vote be taken.
“The vote was 56-51 [for joining] — it was a close election,” Bradley said. “There were 11 allegations of intimidation so that could have affected the outcome. … We’re not anti-union.”
