Crime History: Bonnie & Clyde gunned down

On this day, May 23, in 1934, police gunned down notorious criminal couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.

Parker and Barrow robbed banks and stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico and Louisiana — and killed anyone who got in their way.

Police tracked the evasive couple for two years and across five states, as Park and Barrow left behind them a trail of empty cash registers and cracked safes.

But before dawn on May 23, the crime spree ended when a special investigator located the outlaws in Sailes, La. Retired Texas police officer Capt. Frank Hamer hid in the bushes on a country road outside Sailes, and when Parker and Barrow drove by in a stolen car, he opened fire and killed the couple instantly.
