ABC’s The View host Meghan McCain ripped into Border Patrol for the death of a 16-year-old boy who died in his cell without proper medical attention.
“You think about his family and you think about immigration in this country, and I think that we forget that these are God’s children and people that are coming here to reach a better life,” McCain said Friday about the death of Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez, an illegal immigrant who was in custody in Texas. “And no matter how you feel about immigration, and everyone knows I probably have different opinions than most of the table, you can’t leave people to die in such a horrific way.”
She added, “I think when we have these conversations and politicize it so much, we leave out the humanity. And I think when you see videos like this, I think you can’t help but be impacted on the fact that we are losing our humanity in these conversations.”
The conversation comes the day after ProPublica released video from Border Patrol that showed the 16-year-old boy dying from the flu in his cell without medical attention. U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the death on Monday, but its account was contradicted by the video, which was released Thursday.
