WATCH: The irony of Obama’s visit is missed on Democrats, says Sarah Westwood

The irony of former President Barack Obama’s visit to the White House Tuesday night lies in its timing and display of how unpopular President Joe Biden is, even among his own party, according to Washington Examiner political and investigative reporter Sarah Westwood.

Obama visited the White House Tuesday night to tout the 2010 Affordable Care Act and, while there, he suggested Democrats have a story to tell and just need to tell it heading into the midterm elections.

Westwood told Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo on Wednesday that Obama’s White House visit and suggestion of Democrats having a story to tell is not only ironic but untrue.

“Democrats’ problem is almost exactly the opposite, that they don’t have a compelling story to tell on every issue that matters to voters,” Westwood said. “They don’t really have any successes or anything resembling a coherent agenda to run on. … They’re not excited about [Biden], he’s not a compelling personality like Obama, and he doesn’t really have a clear brand.”

When asked by Bartiromo about the notable fanfare of Obama that overshadowed Biden, Westwood noted that Biden’s lack of popularity will hurt Democrats heading into the midterm elections.

“People have assessed him as a relatively incompetent president ever since the Afghanistan debacle,” Westwood said. “Now, it’s really unclear what Biden even stands for, and you can see reflected in polls that Democrats just aren’t excited to line up and vote for candidates that are aligning themselves with Biden right now.”
