Area bank robberies could be linked, Falls Church police say

Falls Church police say a May bank robbery could be linked to others in Fairfax County and Alexandria.

A Chevy Chase Bank on West Broad Street was robbed by an unidentified black male suspect on May 1, said Falls Church spokeswoman Nicole Gobbo.

At a regional meeting later that month, she said detectives from the three jurisdictions discussed similarities in suspect description and the details of the crimes.

“In all three cases, these suspects passed a note to the bank teller, demanding money,” Gobbo said. The other two police departments, however, won’t corroborate Falls Church’s report. Alexandria police refused to comment on any connection with a suspect in their May 12 Wachovia Bank robbery on North Washington Street.

Fairfax County police said they are not coordinating with Falls Church on any of their recent bank robberies.

“However, in the near future, there may be some collective investigation,” said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Keela Lowry.
