Coast Guard court-martial over Key West assault

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — A U.S. Coast Guard petty officer is facing a court-martial for allegedly assaulting a tourist couple outside a Key West bar last year.

The court-martial begins Monday morning for 40-year-old Petty Officer Michael Gold for the November 2013 incident.

Gold is charged with groping a woman and then assaulting her husband when confronted. Gold specifically faces charges of abusive sexual contact, assault and drunk and disorderly conduct.

The court-martial is being held at federal court in Key West.

Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, punishments could include a year in confinement, pay forfeiture or a bad conduct discharge.
