Boy pulled from Potomac River dies

District fire department rescue workers were able to rescue a 4-year-old boy who had fallen into the Potomac River, but he did not survive, a fire department spokesman said.

The boy fell into the river around 1 p.m. near Fletcher’s Boat House in Northwest around 1 p.m., the spokesman said. Fire crews pulled him from the river and took him to a local hospital, where he died.

Dogs rescued from District home may have been kept for fighting

D.C. police say the residents of a Southeast home are under investigation for dogfighting after police rescued a half-dozen pit bulls from the Sixth Street house.

Police raided the home Thursday night after receiving complaints from neighbors who believed the dogs were being used in fights, WTOP reported Sunday. Dogfighting is a felony in the District. The dogs, which were a mix of adults and puppies, are being kept as evidence.

Police: Md. man attempts to set wife on fire

A Maryland man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he pumped gasoline into their car and then ignited it while his wife was inside.

The woman told police that she and her husband, Queen Anne’s County resident Pernell Clanton Jr., were stopped at a Stevensville gas station Friday night when Clanton allegedly began pumping gasoline into the car’s passenger-side window. He then lit the gas on fire, but his wife was able to escape.

They were both hospitalized with minor injuries.

Va. man’s laptop stolen from his hands

A Dumfries man was sitting on his porch when two men grabbed his laptop from his hands and ran off, Prince William County police said.

The man was sitting on his porch on the 4000 block of Jasper Lane around 4 p.m. Thursday when the laptop was snatched. Police said they’re looking for two 15-year-old black males. One was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, the other about 5 feet 8 inches tall. Both were in shorts and T-shirts.
