President Trump urged Alabama voters to pick acting Sen. Luther Strange in the state’s special election Tuesday.
“Luther Strange has been shooting up in the Alabama polls since my endorsement. Finish the job — vote today for ‘Big Luther,'” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.
Trump sided with Strange to permanently replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had held the seat before being picked for a top Cabinet post.
Recently departed White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told the Conservative Action Project in a closed-door meeting in Washington, D.C., this month that he will back former state Supreme Court justice Roy Moore over the acting senator.
Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., who unsuccessfully ran against Moore and Strange for the top two slots, has also endorsed Moore.
In a Sept. 9-10 poll funded by the Senate Leadership Fund, Moore led Strange 41-40 percent.
