DC Metro back to normal service for Blue, Orange, and Silver lines

The Washington, D.C., Metro will not reduce service on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines because its safety watchdog withdrew a directive related to operator training.

The Metro’s three lines will continue to operate at 15-minute intervals. That’s a change from when it originally announced it would be reducing service to every 25 minutes because the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission directed the transit system to remove 54 rail operators due to insufficient training.

However, once D.C. Metro appealed the decision on the grounds of causing delays, the commission withdrew its directive, according to DCist. The Blue, Silver, and Orange lines will continue to run every 15 minutes.

The Metro had argued that every certified operator has “17 weeks of combined classroom and on-the-job training for student operators with an instructor in the cab, for at least 38 hours.”

The commission is still making its decision over the petition to return more 7000-series trains to service.

The Red and Green lines would not have been affected by the decisions.
