Team Trump: ‘It helps us to be a little bit behind’

Donald Trump’s new presidential campaign manager acknowledged the GOP nominee is losing to Hillary Clinton, but insisted that’s a good thing.

“I think it helps us to be a little bit behind and we are,” Kellyanne Conway told CNN Thursday. “It lights a fire under us and it reminds us what we need to do to get this done.”

Her comments were a far cry from Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s refusal to admit on Wednesday that the GOP nominee was lagging in the polls. She also said that while the horse race numbers “look great for Hillary Clinton,” the cross-tabs in the polling show Clinton is still disliked and not trusted.

“We like our odds in this sense: We’re the ones going out and giving these policy speeches, we’re the ones talking to the press and not ignoring them,” Conway said. “We’re the ones who have the issue set in our favor because at the end of the day this is 2000, this is 2008, all over again. It’s a change election.”

Conway said the GOP nominee would begin preparing for the fall debates against Clinton this weekend. She declined to say who would play Clinton and said it was confidential.
