David Hogg: ‘White mass shooters are terrorists’

David Hogg, a Parkland shooting survivor turned gun control activist, said it was time to label mass shooters who are white as terrorists rather than criminals or mentally ill.

“The reason I say white is because consistently in the media specifically white mass shooters are covered as mentally ill even when they do have political motivations. However almost anytime it’s a black or brown person they always get covered as a terrorist or criminal,” he said.

Hogg used the shooter that attacked Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as example.

The alleged Stoneman Douglas shooter had multiple of pictures of Nazis and the KKK, along with notes on how to carry out the attack, memes on how to commit suicide, and searches of previous mass school shootings. Henderson Behavioral Health, Broward County’s largest mental health services organization, had extensive interactions with him and his family for years before the attack.

Lawyers for the victim’s families said Henderson failed to report the alleged gunman’s desire to harm people to the police and failed to properly diagnose and treat him.

The FBI defines domestic terrorism as, “Individuals and/or groups inspired by or associated with primarily U.S.-based movements that espouse extremist ideologies of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.”
