Alexander Ovechkin and Evgengy Kuznetsov of the Washington Capitals are bringing the Stanley Cup to their home country of Russia for a visit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a new report.
As the Caps prepare for the celebratory parade throughout downtown D.C. rumors about Ovechkin or Kuznetsov having plans to take the newly earned Stanley Cup to Russia began to swirl.
Sergey Kocharov, the vice president of communications for the Washington Capitals, said the planning of a celebratory trip is underway, but the details are still to be determined.

The Washington Capitals defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights by a score of 4-3 in game five last week to take home the team’s first-ever Stanley Cup. The title marks D.C.’s first major sports championship title since 1992.
The team has been spotted all over D.C., celebrating the victory. Even Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner were captured in a photo posing with the NHL players in an upscale Georgetown restaurant.
Speculation has already begun whether the Capitals will get an invitation to the White House, after President Trump recently pulled an invitation from the Philadelphia Eagles for an event to celebrate their Super Bowl victory. Winger Devante Smith-Pelly already said he isn’t too into politics, and wouldn’t go if invited.
