Los Angeles will rename Rodeo Road — not to be confused with the more famous Rodeo Drive — after former President Barack Obama.
LA Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Tuesday that City Council had voted to rename Rodeo Road, which will now be known as Obama Boulevard.
“We’re thrilled that Angelenos and visitors will forever be reminded of the legacy of President @BarackObama when traveling across L.A.,” he tweeted. Garcetti served a California co-chair of Obama’s 2008 campaign.

City Council President Herb Wesson proposed changing the 3.5-mile street in June 2017. It runs through a predominately black community, according to the Los Angeles Times.

It’s at least the second road named after the former president. In July 2017, Illinois lawmakers voted to rename a portion of Interstate 55 as the “Barack Obama Presidential Expressway.”
Obama served as an Illinois state senator before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, and he was elected president in 2008, before finishing a full term in the Senate.
