Iraqi president heads to tense Kurdish area

BAGHDAD (AP) — A senior official says Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has headed to the Kurdish autonomous region to calm tensions after clashes between Kurdish and Iraqi forces.

The official says Talabani met on Monday with the leader of the autonomous region, Massoud Barzani. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, because he wasn’t authorized to brief reporters.
