An Edgewater man was killed Sunday when he drove his motorcycle into a construction zone, Anne Arundel County police said Tuesday. James Stockett III, 25, was attempting to merge his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle left into a southbound lane of Solomon?s Island Road near Forest Drive in Annapolis.
The lane was marked as a right-turn-only lane, and Stockett tried to brake rapidly, making the motorcycle skid.
To avoid hitting traffic, Stockett steered the motorcycle toward the road?s shoulder, which is under construction and marked with orange traffic cones.
Stockett?s motorcycle began rotating on the crushed gravel area of the shoulder.
He was ejected from the motorcycle and later died at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Police have not determined if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
