Stock-footage company Dissolve is mocking presidential candidate advertisements with their own generic TV ad for a fake candidate.
Promising to help realize an “American America,” the generic candidate says in a voiceover of the mock political advertisement, “My record shows that I can construct a narrative by keeping the details pretty vague. Families, the economy, faith, and education are all things that I have addressed in nonspecific ways.”
“Did I mention I’m super capable? I can stand behind a podium,” he adds over an uplifting, soaring score in the intentionally meaningless ad.
“Here are a bunch of different people, matched with career signifiers like a helmet, a uniform, or a stethoscope, in the off-chance that you identify with one of them,” he says. He also noted the inclusion of a minority family “that doesn’t mind being associated with me.”
The candid candidate says in his plea for support from key voting blocks, “If you are thinking about retirement, here are some old people smiling. Thank God they are still alive to vote.”
And in the face of anonymous threats that only he is capable of preventing, he says, “right now is a critical time because of the past, and the future, and this American flag.”
