Stacey Abrams ‘intends to run for governor again,’ ally says

The most visible Democrat in the state of Georgia plans to run for governor of the state after failing to win the same race in 2018.

Wendy Davis, a Democratic National Committee member who also sits on the executive committee of the Georgia Democratic Party, said it’s “a secret to no one” that Stacey Abrams will contend for the governorship in 2022.

“Stacey Abrams intends to run for governor again,” Davis told the Daily Beast.

Abrams, who accused Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of engaging in voter suppression to secure his election in 2018, has been credited with playing a pivotal role in President-elect Joe Biden’s likely victory in the once deep-red state.

A representative with Abrams declined to confirm rumors about Abrams’s future, noting the Democrat was focused on helping secure Senate wins for Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in the Georgia special election scheduled for Jan. 5, 2021.

“Leader Abrams has made no decisions about her political future and is solely focused on electing Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock on Jan. 5,” the representative said.
