GOP congresswomen praise Trump’s child care plan

Donald Trump was joined by several Republican congresswomen at a rally Tuesday night, where he debuted a series of policy proposals focused on child care affordability and working American families.

“I want to say a special thank you to Mr. Trump,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told the audience as she and five other congresswomen joined the Republican presidential nominee on stage. “Focusing on the issues is something that is vitally important to each of us standing here on this stage.”

“We come from a variety of backgrounds — we have a nurse, we have farmers, we have teachers, we have entrepreneurs — that’s the skillset we bring to Congress and the experience that we draw from,” Blackburn said of herself and her colleagues. “We know that there are issues when it comes to child care, when it comes to dealing with the workplace, and just as Ivanka [Trump] said so perfectly, this is a family issue.”

Blackburn said she and the others are “thrilled” at the possibility of having “a president of the United States who is going to put the focus on working with women to make certain that you can achieve your American dream.”

The Tennessee Republican was joined by Reps. Renee Ellmers, N.C., Cynthia Lummis, Wyo., Diane Black, Tenn., Vicky Hartzler, Mo. and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Wash., the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

Trump, who was introduced by his daughter by his Ivanka, proposed mandating six weeks paid maternity leave for all new mothers and new tax deductions and rebates for working parents earning less than $500,000 annually and single parents earning $250,000 or less.

“The congresswomen like to hear wow,” Trump said as the crowd cheered his proposals.
