Formerly deported member of MS-13 sentenced to prison

A once-deported Honduran MS-13 member was sentenced to 18 months in prison Tuesday for being in the United States illegally for a third time, the U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland said. Rafael Majano-Maldonado, 28, was caught in 1999, was released on bail and then disappeared. He popped back on the radar in 2006 when he was arrested because of his MS-13 membership. In May 2006 he was deported, but returned to Hyattsville where he was arrested in July.  – Freeman Klopott

Silver Spring woman, 27, sexually assaulted, police say

A 27-year-old Silver Spring woman was sexually assaulted on the 10100 block of Georgia Avenue early Saturday morning, Montgomery County police said Tuesday. The woman was walking in the parking lot behind an apartment building around 5 a.m. when she was attacked from behind by a black male, about 30, 5-foot-8 with a thin build. He put his hand over her mouth, forced her into a grassy area and removed some of her clothing. He ran when she screamed. Anyone with information is asked to call 240-773-5070. – Freeman Klopott

District police probing death of motorcyclist over weekend

D.C. police are investigating a traffic accident that killed a motorcyclist in Southeast Washington over the weekend. At 6:20 p.m. Saturday, a 2001 Kawasaki ZX-7R motorcycle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed on M Street when it collided with a southbound vehicle trying to turn left from Seventh Street onto M Street. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 30-year-old Theodros Dejene, of the 13000 block of Reid Circle in Fort Washington. – Scott McCabe

Police arrest man for allegedly breaking into day labor trailer

A man was arrested for allegedly breaking into the day labor trailer near Sligo Mill Road and Sheridan Street in Takoma Park, according to Takoma Park police. Officers patrolling the area at about 2 a.m. Tuesday found a man inside the trailer. Police arrested Hector Espino, 37, and charged him with fourth-degree burglary, trespassing, failure to obey a lawful order, and providing false information. – Scott McCabe
