Bush family, dignitaries gather at Washington National Cathedral to say farewell to George H.W. Bush

The late former President George H.W. Bush’s casket will depart the Capitol Wednesday morning for a funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral, an event that will be attended by President Trump and notable politicians from both parties on this national day of mourning.

The late president’s remains and Bush family, including former President George W. Bush, will arrive at the cathedral mid-Wednesday morning, and the funeral services is expected to begin at 11 a.m.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump will sit in the row in front of the pulpit, alongside remaining former presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, the Associated Press reported. George W. Bush and his family will be sitting nearby.

The last time all five men were together was at Trump’s inauguration in Jan. 2017.

Four men will be delivering eulogies, including the late president’s eldest son and former President George W. Bush.

Also expected to speak are former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, who served while the late president was in office; former Republican Sen. Alan Simpson of Wyoming, who has been close with the Bush family since the 1960s; and historian Jon Meacham, who wrote the Bush biography Destiny and Power.

Britain’s Prince Charles, the king and queen of Jordan, Polish President Andrzej Duda, and other dignitaries from around the globe are expected to be in attendance at the funeral.

Late Wednesday, Bush’s casket will return to Texas for the last time, and he is expected to lie in repose for public viewing at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston. The church will hold a memorial service Thursday morning.

The casket will then be transported to Texas A&M University, where the former president will be laid to rest on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, next to his wife, Barbara, and their daughter, Robin, who died of leukemia in 1953 at the age of 3.
