President Trump offered help to Boris Johnson after it was announced that the British prime minister had been placed under intensive care over the coronavirus.
During a press conference on Monday, Trump announced that he had been in contact with companies producing therapeutic drugs in hopes that they could help Johnson recover. He noted that the drug manufacturers had been in contact with Johnson’s team of doctors. The president said the United States would offer any assistance it could to help Johnson recover.
“They have arrived in London already. Their London office has whatever they need, and we will see if we can be of help,” he said. “We have contacted all of Boris’s doctors, and we will see what is going to take place. But they are ready to go. But, when you get brought into intensive care, that gets very, very serious with this particular disease.”
Trump noted that he is not sure that Johnson’s doctors will opt to use any of the drugs, but he said that four companies with therapeutic drugs being used to treat the coronavirus had been in contact with U.S. officials and officials in London, saying, “They have everything with them should it be needed.”
The president noted that he gets along well with Johnson and hopes to see a quick recovery, saying, “I found Boris to be a fantastic person, just like a fantastic, warm, strong, smart guy who loves his country. You’ll see that. I mean, he fought like hell for his country. And intensive care is big stuff.”
