Pence to visit with House Republicans next week

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence will return to Capitol Hill next week to speak with Republican lawmakers, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Tuesday.

The former Indiana congressman served in the House for more than a decade before he became governor of the Hoosier State in 2013 and has maintained close ties to GOP lawmakers since.

Pence was chairman of the Republican Study Committee and House Republican Conference during his decade-long tenure in Congress. He was initially invited by Ryan and other House leaders to speak to lawmakers about his and Trump’s legislative agenda ahead of Election Day.

“Earlier this year, Donald Trump spoke to the House Republican conference and had a productive conversation with our members,” Ryan said in a statement. “We’re glad to welcome his running mate and our former colleague, Governor Mike Pence, to do the same.”

“Mike Pence is a great friend and a true conservative, and I’m grateful that he’s coming to rally our members down the homestretch,” he added, noting that Pence “has added tremendous value” to the GOP presidential ticket.
