McDonald’s commercial, ‘Flashpoint’ and more

Q: I am very curious about the music used on the current McDonald’s commercial featuring the mango/pineapple smoothies. It is a very catchy tune. Is it music that is available to everyone, or is it used just for the ads? Thanks for any help you can give me. – Eric, 45 Asheboro, N.C. A: According to a McDonald’s spokeswoman, this is original music scored for the commercial and its usage rights are for advertising only. So, no, you can’t buy it.

Q: Love “Flashpoint” and sorry CBS is letting it go (though I think they are nuts for doing so). Do you know when it is starting on Ion? – Mary Catherine, 48, Upper St. Clair, Pa.

A: CBS executives have always seemed to look at “Flashpoint” with wrinkled noses, like a smelly garbage can. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s a Canadian import that they did not develop or for some other reason.

An Ion spokeswoman said “Flashpoint” episodes will begin airing on Ion this fall, but she provided no information on whether this will be episodes that have not aired already on CBS.

Q: Now that “Lopez Tonight” has been canceled, I’m really worried about these rumors about TBS considering canceling “Conan” being possibly true.

How has Conan been doing for TBS and how are his chances of continuing to stay on the air standing? – Aaron, 22, Murrysville, Pa.

A: Ratings for “Conan” have not been fantastic, but TBS executives claim to be pleased regardless and they have a fix in mind. I think they will stick with “Conan” for the foreseeable future. It would certainly help if TBS gave “Conan” a decent lead-in and additional reasons to watch the network (quality original prime-time programming).
