Chiropractor pleads guilty in insurance-fraud scam

A chiropractor has pleaded guilty for his role in an insurance-fraud scheme he ran with a personal-injury lawyer.

Falls Church resident Jason Carle, 38, who operates clinics in Silver Spring and Oxon Hill, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court in Alexandria.

Prosecutors alleged that Carle and personal-injury attorney Ryan A. Lahuti would refer clients to each other. After Lahuti was in an accident in May 2009, he asked Carle to fabricate patient files so he could submit fraudulent insurance claims, according to court records.

Lahuti also used false documents Carle created to submit false claims to auto insurance companies for others, court records say. He has been charged with mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud. His trial is scheduled for June 6.

Carle is scheduled to be sentenced July 29 and could face up to 20 years in prison.
