Grammy award-winning rapper Cardi B called out modern rappers, who she says “want to die” by using drugs, in an Instagram live video earlier this week.
Cardi B, famous for her breakout song “Bodak Yellow,” said clubs need her music because the songs they play now are not pieces that make her want to dance. The record-breaking artist accused rappers of producing depressing music that’s played in current clubs.
“They missing me, they missing my music. And now that I’m in the game and everything and I be seeing all these motherf*****s on Twitter like, ‘You need to have rap, you need to have bars, you need to have this …’ I want to make music to turn the f*** up,” Cardi B said in her video, which is no longer available. “I feel like we keep hearing the same song over and over and over again.”

Cardi B went on to say that current rappers are blowing their money on marijuana and “lean,” a drink that mixes codeine found in prescription cough syrup, alcohol, and occasionally antihistamines such as promethazine. The drink is called “lean” because of the sensations it causes the drinker to feel.
“All these n***** need to stop doing lean and smoking weed. You know, this the thing about these rappers: They get money and they start buying too much motherf****n’ weed and too much lean and they make that slow s***,” the singer said.
Cardi B’s music was a success in the club and bar scene prior to the pandemic. However, the pandemic hit clubs and bars hard as government officials issued stay-at-home orders last year. Cardi B delayed recording her next album, a follow-up to her debut album Invasion of Privacy, during the pandemic.

Despite the delay in her sophomore album, the songwriter has had hit singles top the charts since her last record, including her duet with Megan Thee Stallion called “WAP” and her latest single “Up,” which was released in March. Both reached No. 1 upon debut — “WAP” remained on the top 100 chart for 24 weeks, and “Up” remained for 20.
Cardi B and her husband, rapper Offset, welcomed their second child, a son, in September.
