Donald Trump on Thursday listed out his top three priorities after a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
“We’re going to look very strongly at immigration … the border,” he told reporters in the Senate when asked to name the top issues he wants to tackle. “We’ll look very strongly at healthcare, and jobs, big league jobs.”
Trump didn’t take any followup questions during his quick stop in the Senate, including where he stands on his plan to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. When asked that question, Trump threw up his hands and said, “Thank you, everybody.”
However, Trump made immigration a cornerstone of his campaign, and has promised repeatedly to build a wall to keep out illegal immigrants. Some of his aides have walked that promise back and said it implies a tougher overall stance on immigration.
Trump and congressional Republicans have also said they would push to repeal Obamacare, a step that could come to pass with a Republican in the White House.
Trump, his wife Melania and Mike Pence lunched with Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Thursday. Ryan’s office said the foursome talked about the agenda for 2017 and the early priorities of the Trump administration.
Afterward, they went to the Capitol, and took in the view from speaker’s balcony, one of Washington’s most iconic and dramatic panoramas.
Ryan gestured to an area on the West side of the Capitol where the inauguration would occur and pointed to various sights around the city.
At one point, Ryan appeared to point out the site of Trump International, the incoming president’s new hotel in the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue just a few blocks from the White House.
Later, when walking past reporters to his meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Trump called the view “really, really beautiful” and didn’t answer any other questions.
