‘An anti-Semitic Socialist who slanders US troops’: Liz Cheney hits back at Ilhan Omar

Two congresswomen traded barbs, accusing each other of lying and anti-Semitism.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., said Rep. Elizabeth Cheney, R-Wy., “is accusing a committee investigating Russian election interference of…helping Vladimir Putin.”

“Clearly what the Democrats in the Judiciary Committee are doing is undermining our democracy and helping Vladimir Putin,” Cheney said in a press conference on Wednesday. Cheney went on to accuse Democrats of doing what the Russian president would do if he were in Congress.

“This is an impressive lie even for the Cheney family,” Omar tweeted in response.

Cheney did not hold back in her response, labeling the Democratic freshman a friend of Palestinian fundamentalists and Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuela strongman.

“No surprise @IlhanMN, an anti-Semitic Socialist who slanders US troops and carries water for Hamas and Maduro, doesn’t recognize the truth when she hears it,” Cheney said.

Omar had tweeted, prior to joining Congress, that the American troops involved in the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu had killed “thousands” of Somalis.

U.S. veterans of the battle blasted Omar for misrepresenting their service.
