A Honduran man convicted on multiple criminal charges in the U.S. pleaded guilty Wednesday to illegally entering the country after being deported on 10 occasions.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Wednesday afternoon 33-year-old Jose Salazar-Aguilar pleaded guilty in a Kansas City, Mo., court. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison without parole for the felony charge of illegal re-entry for a second time.
Salazar-Aguilar was last deported in 2013 following an aggravated felony conviction, which led to his 10th deportation.
His most recent police encounter took place in February 2017. Kansas City police officers arrested him for driving under the influence and resisting arrest. Salazar-Aguilar made bond and was later picked up by ICE officers during a traffic stop later in the month.
ICE said Salazar-Aguilar was convicted of the felony offense of delivering a controlled substance in Oregon in 2003. He served his sentence and afterwards was deported.
He has also been convicted for possessing a controlled substance and forgery.
ICE did not disclose how Salazar-Aguilar entered the country on those 10 occasions.
