Motel 6 will ‘discontinue’ practice of sharing guest information with ICE

The budget motel chain never confirmed they were sharing their guest list with Immigration and Custom Enforcement officials, after being accused of doing so on Wednesday, but released a statement saying the act of doing so would be “discontinued.”

“This was implemented at the local level without the knowledge of senior management. When we became aware of it last week, it was discontinued,” Motel 6 said in a statement released on the company’s official Twitter page.

A report published by the Phoenix New Times showed, after a review of court records between February and August, 20 arrests were made at two Phoenix Motel 6 locations.

Anonymous Motel 6 employees told the New Times it was “standard practice” to hand over guest information with ICE.

“We send a report every morning to ICE — all the names of everybody that comes in,” one front-desk clerk told the New Times. “Every morning at about 5 o’clock, we do the audit and we push a button and it sends it to ICE.”
