A top member of Congress who opposes abortion said President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are “already accomplishing amazing things” in office.
“You and I are profoundly thankful that President Trump and Vice President Pence are already accomplishing amazing things,” Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., said at a rally before Friday’s March for Life.
Smith applauded Trump’s move this week to reinstate the “Mexico City policy” which bans international aid from going to organizations that provide abortions. And he cheered the exit of former President Barack Obama, calling him the “abortion president.”
“No human rights abuse, however, need be forever,” Smith told thousands of abortion protesters gathered on the National Mall. “You and I are part of the greatest human rights struggle on earth.”
The annual protest of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, now in its 44th year, kicked off at noon Friday with a rally where Pence and top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway spoke. Smith is beloved among abortion foes for his focus on cracking down on abortion.
