Republican political consultant and adviser Karl Rove reacted to a 2020 clip of Vice President Kamala Harris saying that then-presidential candidate Joe Biden told her foreign policy is all about “relationships.” Rove said during an appearance on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime that a recent Saudi Arabian skit mocking the U.S. leaders is not about relationships but about actions.
“I think it’s representative of a problem that we have got in the region, and it’s not because of personal relationships,” Rove said of the skit, referring to Harris’s past comments. “It’s because of actions that we have taken that they don’t like,” he added, citing cutting back military assistance, engaging in negotiations with Iran, and not supporting Saudi Arabia’s fight against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
During the October 2020 vice presidential debate with then-Vice President Mike Pence, Harris responded to a question about foreign policy, saying, “You’ve got to be loyal to your friends,” while also defending the Iran nuclear deal.

Fox News host Jesse Watters asked Rove whether the Biden administration has hit a streak of bad luck recently, referencing the Saudi Arabian skit and a bird pooping on Biden’s shoulder Tuesday in Iowa while he blamed Putin for high inflation.
“Look, please, I mean, gas prices were going up before Feb. 24th and the invasion of Ukraine,” Rove said. “The idea that we are going to blame all the problems of the transitory inflation on Putin is just — I mean, they’re digging a hole deeper. The American people look at that and say, ‘Who do you think we are? Idiots?’”

Rove added, “The administration has got bad messaging, and it’s because they got a lousy message to sell.”
