A new poll found Sen. Bernie Sanders trailing Hillary Clinton by just four points in Indiana, which holds its Democratic primary on Tuesday.
The survey released Sunday found 50 percent of likely Democratic primary voters in the state behind Clinton, the former secretary of state. Sanders, a Vermont senator, received 46 percent support, the April 26-28 NBC News/WSJ/Marist poll found.
Both candidates saw an increase in support. That suggests that previously undecided Democratic and independent voters have made up their minds.
Topping 50 percent support is significant for Clinton, who has maintained an average six-point lead over Sanders. It suggests she is in good shape to carry the state, despite the close poll results.
The tightening of the race means Clinton and Sanders “are more likely to divide the delegate poll, which will do little to change the narrative on the Democratic side,” Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion said.
