Trump: James Comey ‘very cowardly’ for leaking documents

President Trump blasted former FBI Director James Comey for leaking a copy of his memo about a meeting with the president and speculated his leaks could be bigger than people anticipate.

“I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible. Totally illegal? Very ‘cowardly!'” Trump tweeted Sunday

Comey admitted during testimony last week that he gave a copy of his memo to a friend so that friend could leak it to reporters. Comey testified that he never kept written memos of one-on-one meetings with President George W. Bush or President Barack Obama because he didn’t feel those men “might lie” about their conversations later.

During his testimony, Comey said he believed Trump directed him to end the FBI’s investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn and Trump demanded loyalty during one of their first meetings. Trump and the White House have denied both accusations.

Trump railed also against the media Sunday morning for not reporting good economic news during the early days of his administration.

“The #FakeNews MSM doesn’t report the great economic news since Election Day. #DOW up 16%. #NASDAQ up 19.5%. Drilling & energy sector way up. Regulations way down. 600,000+ new jobs added. Unemployment down to 4.3%. Business and economic enthusiasm way up- record levels!” Trump tweeted.

While many presidents shy away from tying their political fortunes to the whims of the stock market, Trump has been happy to do so during his time in office. He’s often touted the growth of the market as proof that consumer and business confidence is higher on his watch than under President Obama.
