AOC endorses Bernie Sanders for president in 2020

Liberal firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will reportedly endorse fellow socialist Bernie Sanders’ bid for the presidency.

The New York congresswoman, 30, is expected to appear alongside the 78-year-old Vermont senator at a Saturday rally in Queens, New York, to throw her support behind his candidacy, according to the Washington Post.

Sanders appeared to tease the endorsement during Tuesday’s Democratic debate, noting that he would have a “special guest” at the upcoming rally.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday,” said Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent.

Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, two other members of the “squad” of liberal freshman congresswomen, are also expected to throw their support behind the candidacy of Sanders. Omar said in a statement, “Bernie is leading a working class movement to defeat Donald Trump that transcends generation, ethnicity and geography.” Citing his positions on student debt, school meals, immigration, and foreign policy, Omar said, “I believe Bernie Sanders is the best candidate to take on Donald Trump in 2020.”

The move is a blow to Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who has been steadily rising in the polls and could be a boost to Sanders, who has been flagging recently as questions of his age continue to dog the campaign amid his recent heart attack.
