Sen. Ted Cruz offered support for Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Tuesday after her ads were taken off Facebook.
The 2020 Democratic presidential contender had called for the breakup of big tech companies, including Facebook, in the ads.
“First time I’ve ever retweeted @ewarren,” the Texas Republican said in a tweet. “But she’s right—Big Tech has way too much power to silence Free Speech. They shouldn’t be censoring Warren, or anybody else. A serious threat to our democracy.”

Cruz pointed out it was the first time he was retweeting Warren, who was responding to a report that Facebook had taken down the campaign ads.
“Curious why I think FB has too much power? Let’s start with their ability to shut down a debate over whether FB has too much power. Thanks for restoring my posts. But I want a social media marketplace that isn’t dominated by a single censor. #BreakUpBigTech” Warren posted to Twitter.
The social media site later restored Warren’s posts.
“We removed the ads because they violated our policies against use of our corporate logo,” a representative for Facebook said. “In the interest of allowing robust debate, we are restoring the ads.”
Warren’s ads promoted a plan she announced that would unwind what she called anti-competitive tech mergers, like Facebook’s acquisition of messaging service WhatsApp and photo-sharing app Instagram.
