Cab rides were $1 cheaper in D.C. Thursday.
The rule allowing cabbies to charge an extra dollar to cover higher gas costs has expired. Cab drivers have been charging the fee for 16 months.
Gas cost $3.45 per gallon in March 2011 when the District’s cab commission imposed the fee. The cost rose to $3.85 in March, when the fee was extended. Gas is now down to about $3.56 a gallon and experts expect it to drop further over the summer.
