Fairfax stack costs, responsibilities on developers

Fairfax County supervisors passed one resolution and put two more in the pipeline that would bring new liability and responsibilities to builders.

The complicated set of new regulations could ramp up the costs of doing business, which some say could be passed on to homebuyers.

Effective immediately, a 3.4 percent increase was tagged on to builder transportation contributions for projects in certain areas of the county. Officials hope the increase will generate new funds for roads.

Also, public hearings were set in the fall for a measure that could make it more expensive for a builder to renege on public improvements, and another that would require an archaeological study in or near historic areas.
