West Point cadet charged with five drug-related counts

A West Point cadet set to graduate this year was charged Tuesday with five violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, all of which were drug-related.

Ammon Tuimaunei was charged with wrongful possession and wrongful distribution of the controlled substances cocaine and oxycodone, as well as conspiracy with intent to distribute cocaine and oxycodone.

A similar incident at the Army academy occurred among six cadets last November. Last month, two of the six cadets were referred to a general courts-martial and were put on administrative leave until they can be arraigned in front of a military judge. They face charges for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and wrongful use, introduction and distribution of controlled substances.

The four other cadets remain on administrative leave until the superintendent renders a decision on what to do next.
