Private donors and local governments have joined forces to pool money that will be offered as a reward for information on the gunman who shot two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
The city manager for El Monte, California, told Fox LA that the city agreed to add $10,000 to the reward for the gunman. Minutes later, a private East Coast law firm agreed to add $25,000 to the pool. The influx of cash has tripled the original reward of $100,000 to $300,000 for information on the gunman.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has been working to get more people to add to the reward for information on the gunman, who has been on the run since the shooting took place on Saturday. On Tuesday, Villanueva challenged NBA star LeBron James to double the private donations that had been put toward the reward. At the time, $75,000 had been donated to the cause. James has not responded to the challenge.
The shooter was filmed walking up to the squad car and firing several shots at the two deputies inside before running away. Both of the officers were rushed to the hospital, where they were met by protesters chanting: “We hope they die.” The two officers are both expected to survive the shooting.
