Marsha Blackburn responds to Bob Corker’s tepid endorsement: WATCH

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., struggled Monday to explain why Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., couldn’t give a wholehearted endorsement of her candidacy to replace him in the U.S. Senate.

“Everybody is going to have opinions and I am focused on November, beating my opponent, and making certain that I do the job of representing the good people of Tennessee,” Blackburn said during an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.

“I have not talked with the senator and I am focused on making certain that we win this election in November,” she added when MacCallum pressed her about the source of her disagreement with Corker.

But Blackburn said she would welcome Corker’s support as she faces an uphill battle against Democratic contender, former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Blackburn trailed Bredesen by double digits in an April Middle Tennessee State University poll.

On CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Corker said he backed Blackburn and had donated the maximum amount to her, but stopped short of offering a resounding endorsement.

Corker also made headlines last week when he announced he wouldn’t campaign against Bredesen because the two are friends.
