Five Metro stops in the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area will be renamed Sunday, Metro announced on Thursday.
Each color line will have a newly named station. White Flint (red) will become North Bethesda, Largo Town Center (blue/gray) will be Downtown Largo, Tysons Corner (gray) will be Tysons, Prince George’s Plaza (yellow/green) will be Hyattsville Crossing, and West Falls Church’s secondary VT/UVA name (orange) will just include VT.
The name changes were requested by local jurisdictions and approved by the Metro Board of Directors, the release from Metro stated.
Some signs have already been implemented at Largo Town Center and White Flint, with more to come for all five stations, and Metro buses will change accordingly. Customers can expect to see immediate changes digitally.
Metro announced on Tuesday that major construction at several platforms would bring new rail cars and improve rail frequencies. Stations serving more than one color line will see more frequent rail services.
The green line, sitting at a frequency per 15 minutes, will see it improve to eight minutes, with extra services due to the suspension of the yellow line. Orange, blue, and silver lines, typically running every 20 minutes on the weekends, will improve to 15 minutes.
Metro will also begin replacing legacy 6-car trains with 7000 series 8-car trains on the red and green lines. Construction near the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Yellow Line bridge will continue for several weeks. Yellow line trains will be rerouted between the Pentagon and L’Enfant Plaza stations.
Officials celebrated the reopening of five orange line stations — New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood, and Minnesota Ave. — on Friday morning, which marked the end of a four-year construction project on 20 outdoor Metro lines.

Through the end of November, each Metro rider will have the opportunity to fill out a survey, either on paper or online. The last survey, conducted in 2016, served as a way to gather demographic information to fulfill Metro’s commitment to providing equitable services, a station press release reads.
