Safeway hosting regional food drive

Safeway is asking customers to help it strike back against hunger by teaming up with food banks across the region to provide groceries to families. Through Sunday, customers can spend $10 to buy a grocery bag containing supplies such as tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables and other goods that typically run low during the summer months. The specially marked “Help Us End Hunger” bags are located on display tables near checkout stands or store entrances across Maryland, Virginia, the District and Delaware. Customers who purchase the bags can drop them in the store’s designated collection bin for food bank representatives to pick up. – Liz Farmer
