Trump lawyers reportedly close to getting written questions from Mueller

President Trump’s legal team may soon receive a series of written questions from special counsel Robert Mueller related to matters that date back before the 2017 inauguration.

A deal has not yet been finalized, but sources told CNN that Trump’s legal team and Mueller have nearly secured an arrangement where Trump would submit written answers related to alleged collusion with the Kremlin.

Trump’s lawyers are working out whether a sit-down interview with Mueller will happen.

It remains uncertain whether Trump will answer questions either written or in person regarding issues following his inauguration; Trump’s legal team doesn’t believe Trump should and claim that there is documentation that would provide answers to what Mueller is seeking.

Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin. He also has expanded his investigation to look at possible obstruction of justice after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Trump said in January he was “looking forward” to being interviewed by Mueller, and indicated a willingness to doing so under oath. Then-White House lawyer Ty Cobb backtracked and clarified that Trump was in a hurry and meant only that he was willing to meet with Mueller.

Trump has repeatedly denounced the investigation as a “witch hunt.”
