Trump and Chief Justice John Roberts meet ahead of swearing-in ceremony

President-elect Trump on Thursday briefly met with Chief Justice John Roberts ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Friday, when Roberts will administer the presidential oath of office.

“The chief justice extended an invitation to the president-elect and vice-president-elect to visit the Supreme Court before the inaugural ceremony,” Supreme Court Spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said. “Unfortunately, the meeting could not be arranged in light of the court’s oral argument schedule and the previous commitments of all concerned. However, the chief justice and the president-elect were able to greet each other briefly this afternoon at the Blair House and discuss arrangements for the inauguration tomorrow.”

The oath of office, which is in the Constitution, states: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

In 2009, Roberts and Obama flubbed the oath of office. They ended up doing a re-do of the oath at the White House — just to be safe.
