New affordable housing available for 55-plus age group in Howard

New affforable housing is now available in Howard County, and officials have extended the deadline for residents to apply.

Three new townhouses are available to purchase in Jones Station in Jessup for those 55 and older through the county’s Moderate Income Housing Unit proram until Aug. 31, county officials said.

The duplex townhouses have three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, two-car garages and are 2,480 square feet each and priced at $241,663, according to housing officials.

To buy a house under Howard’s program, residents need to apply to the County’s Department of Housing and Community Development to be included on a waiting list.

Eligibility requirements to purchase a housing unit include a household income not exceeding 80 percent of the county’s median income, which is currently $75,408 for a family of four, officials said.

While the deadline to apply has been extended for age-restricted housing, a lottery for the non-age restricted will be held in the middle of the month.

There are 10 units available: five Elkridge Crossing condos and one townhouse, two Belmont Station townhouses and two Village Towns townhouses, said county spokesman Kevin Enright.
