Poll: Trump has narrow lead over Clinton in Florida

Donald Trump now has a slight lead over Hillary Clinton in Florida, according to a new poll.

The new Suffolk University poll says Trump leads Clinton 45-44, a slim lead that’s well within the 4-point margin of error. Still, it’s an apparent turnaround for Trump, who trailed Clinton by 4 points in early August.

“Hillary Clinton’s support remains in the mid-forties, but she has lost her August lead because Donald Trump is aggregating previous undecided and Johnson supporters in his camp,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in a statement, referring to Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. “One of the more striking findings is that Florida voters don’t perceive Hillary Clinton as easy a winner as they did in August.”

The poll noted a striking enthusiasm gap between the two candidates, as 54 percent of Trump supporters said this election is the most important of their lifetime, compared to 45 percent of the Clinton camp.

The odds appear to be even more in favor of former Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio’s senate race, as the incumbent senator leads with 43 percent to Democrat opponent Patrick Murphy’s 34 percent.

The telephone survey of 500 Florida likely voters was conducted Sept. 19-21.
