Police shoot suspect in homicide outside party
Two Prince George’s County police officers working security at a Knights of Columbus party shot and wounded a homicide suspect early Sunday morning.
The officers were breaking up a disturbance at the Tucker Road hall around 2 a.m. when they heard gunshots, then saw 19-year-old Donte Guzman, of Southwest, firing a handgun at a man inside of a vehicle, according to police department spokeswoman Cpl. Diane Richardson. She said the officers pursued the fleeing Guzman and shot him as he turned around, striking him twice in the leg.
The man in the car, 39-year-old Anthony Fontane, also of Southwest, died from his wounds. Guzman has been charged with first degree murder, Richardson said. – William C. Flook
Unidentified woman’s body found in Tidal Basin
The body of an unidentified woman was found in the Tidal Basin on Saturday morning, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. After receiving a call just before noon, crews found the woman, who was middle-aged and fully clothed, floating near the Jefferson Memorial, Battalion Fire Chief Kenneth Crosswhite said. She was confirmed dead at the scene, he added.
Authorities on Sunday were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. No one from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner able to speak on the matter could be reached for comment. – William C. Flook
Missing teen found
The Leesburg Police Department located a Loudoun County 16-year-old who had been missing for nearly two weeks on Wednesday. Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies learned Gary Lee Henry, of South Riding, had been staying in vacant buildings and closed community pool houses in the Sterling area and asked for the public’s help because of cold-weather concerns. – Dan Genz
