The White House has endorsed former Vice President Mike Pence cooperating with the Jan. 6 House Select Committee after Pence aides provided testimony and documents.
“As it relates to Vice President Pence, I would say the president believes that anyone who was asked should participate in the process of getting to the bottom of what happened on Jan. 6,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said of President Joe Biden Thursday.

Former President Donald Trump “averted the Constitution in an attempt to overturn a lawful and fair election,” according to Psaki.
“His actions represent a unique and existential threat to our democracy, and the president has been clear that these events warrant a full investigation,” Psaki told reporters.
But Psaki added the Justice Department is an independent federal agency after House investigators indicated they have evidence that suggests Trump and his associates committed crimes in their bid to overturn the 2020 contest.
“That’s how it should always be,” she said. “They will make a decision, a decision about how to move from here.”
The committee wrote in a U.S. District Court in the Central District of California filing that Trump and his allies engaged in a “criminal conspiracy” to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s Electoral College results by spreading false information and pressuring state officials to undermine their own outcomes.
“The evidence supports an inference that President Trump and members of his campaign knew he had not won enough legitimate state electoral votes to be declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election during the Jan. 6 Joint Session of Congress, but the president nevertheless sought to use the vice president to manipulate the results in his favor,” the filing read.

The committee made the claims as part of a lawsuit with Trump adviser John Eastman, who is trying to withhold details from the panel by asserting privilege. Emails between Eastman and Pence chief counsel Greg Jacob imply Eastman implored the vice president to stop the election’s certification, which is outside of his ceremonial purview.
