McDonnell orders panel for military facilities

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, on the heels of the announced closure of Norfolk’s Joint Forces Command, issued an executive order Monday that creates a commission to advocate for the state’s military interests.

The 25-member Commission on Military and National Security Facilities will be composed of retired military members and political business and community leaders.

The group will identify military commands and national security facilities that can be relocated to the state and will seek to bolster the state’s military retention efforts, reporting quarterly to the governor. – Brian Hughes
